LMVA Annual Report 2020
Business Services
Gift Shop
Gift Sales again reduced significantly (80% of the 2018-2019 financial year income) in 2019/20 principally due to the closure of the Gift Shop in the last quarter of the year. Due to the uncertainty of COVID-19 a large portion of the food stock was reduced as it was close to the best before date. The lack of signage within the Hospital has also made it difficult for patients and visitors to access the Gift Shop. We have been assured that the Hospital is looking at signage across the Hospital within the coming months.
This year the Gift Shop started tracking what sells the most. The top three selling categories are soft toys, flowers and drinks.
Market Stall
Similarly, the Market Stall’s sales also decreased (69% of the 2018-2019 financial year) due to the closure of the space in late March 2020. Before the COVID-19 shutdown was enforced the Market Stall was going from strength to strength in 2019/20. The main items sold by the Market Stall are primarily knitted items made by a team of dedicated community volunteers.
Hospital Donations & Vouchers
The Association continues to supply clothing and other items for various areas of the Hospital, particularly the supplying of Thrifty V vouchers for the LMH Social Work Department to provide free clothing and other items to those in need. This year we also worked closely with Modbury Palliative Care in supplying goods for the new Complementary Therapy program.
TV/Newspapers
The Volunteers of the TV Trolley continued their hard work distributing TV Vouchers and Newspapers to patients in the Lyell McEwin and Modbury Hospital to both private and public patients until Covid-19 shut them down. Sales from both services were also affected by COVID-19.
Vending
Vending machine income for the 2019/20 Financial Year continued to be strong and grow. A large reason for the growth is that the CEO has renegotiated new contracts with the vending machine suppliers and installed new vending machines at Lyell McEwin Hospital.
