Volunteer Services We Provide
Lyell McEwin Hospital
WARD VOLUNTEERS
Ward volunteers assist Nursing staff with the day to day activities but more importantly offer a comforting word or someone to sit and chat with for patients staying in the Hospital or visiting the Intensive Care & Emergency Departments. |
PLAYSPACE
LMVA’s Playspace provides up to 2 hours free childminding allowing peace of mind for parents and caregivers accessing Hospital services.

MARKET STALL & GIFT SHOP
Market Place is open Monday to Friday and the Gift Shop 7 days of the week. These outlets offer the Hospital community a convenient and economical facility to shop for flowers, gifts and basic items while providing funds for the Association. |
TV & NEWSPAPER
TV Trolley volunteers ensure patients have access to newspapers and television connection seven days a week.

GUIDES
Guides are the way finding ambassadors who assist patients and visiting families to navigate their way round the Lyell McEwin Hospital. They are also our “Keep Fit Ambassadors”! |
LIBRARY SERVICES
Library Trolley Services operates 7 days a week providing free books, magazines and activities to patients in the Hospital and ensures reading material is available in waiting rooms. |
FUNDRAISING
Community BBQ’s, Raffles & Gift Wrapping are key volunteer programs that generate income supporting the Association to provide services to the Hospital community. |
COMMUNITY TRANSPORT & SHUTTLE BUS
The service offers a point to point transport option where a patient’s clinical condition or social/financial situation may be a barrier to them attending out-patient appointments. |
COMFORT CARE PROGRAM
Developed with close collaboration between the clinical nursing / midwifery staff, the program is run in both the Special Care Nursery and the Children’s Ward of the hospital. Comfort Care Volunteers work in conjunction with the families, clinical and ancillary staff to positively enhance their experience during their hospital stay. |
LMVA WHEELCHAIR PROGRAM
A joint initiative with NALHN, the program provides wheelchairs for outpatients and community members visiting the Lyell Mcewin Hospital. The wheelchairs are motorised and operated by skilled and caring volunteers |
Modbury Hospital

LIBRARY SERVICES
Library Trolley Services operates 7 days a week providing free books, magazines and activities to patients in the Hospital and ensures reading material is available in waiting rooms. |
GUIDES
Guides are the way finding ambassadors who assist patients and visiting families to navigate their way round the Modbury Hospital including the Outpatients area. |
TV & NEWSPAPER
TV Trolley volunteers ensure patients have access to newspapers and television connection seven days a week. |
COMMUNITY TRANSPORT
Volunteer drivers provide an invaluable service to clients in our community who are unable to access public transport and cannot afford the costs of other transport alternatives |
PATIENT SURVEYS
Volunteers visit the Wards daily to obtain and collate data on patient experience in order to improve service quality |
HOSPITAL PACKS & ADMINISTRATION
Volunteers work closely with Modbury Hospital Wards to ensure Discharge Packs are collated and available to patients when returning home. Volunteers support the Modbury Volunteer Manager with key administrative tasks |
