LMVA Annual Report 2020
31st Annual General Meeting
The AGM was held on the28th November 2019 and in addition to the normal meeting’s business, the Association’s most prestigious Ann Taylor Award for Outstanding Contribution was presented. This year two members of the Association were presented with the Ann Taylor Award, Stephen Hester and Garrie Hill
Ann Taylor Award For Outstanding Contribution
To acknowledge outstanding achievement by an individual volunteer of the Lyell McEwin Volunteer Association during the preceding 12 month period. The award is open for nominations for all volunteer members of the Association. The criteria for nomination is “A volunteer who has contributed to a specific project of significance or volunteer who was deemed to have gone 'over and beyond' the call of duty in their voluntary role”. Congratulations to Garrie Hill and Stephen Hester and to the wonderful team of volunteers who support their efforts.
Stephen Hester has been a volunteer with the Association for 4 years, coordinating 75 Guides, as well as volunteers at Outpatient Department, Medical Imaging and Admin Packs. Steve also handles the Coffee Clinic, the Hospital Research Foundation kits, manages all new intern and medical student familiarisation tours and is the NALHN “Poster Man”, literally in charge of the hospital wall landscape over the past few years. Steve is also the unofficial “google” of the Lyell McEwin Hospital and more often than not, when in doubt, we search Steve’s knowledgebase and come up with the right answer. Steve has shown exemplary leadership, vision and support in his role, and is well known to most NALHN staff that relies on his abilities and assured presence all days of the week. Steve’s “CAN DO” attitude and willingness to trial any initiative is invaluable to the Association’s work within the Lyell McEwin Hospital.
Garrie Hill started with the Association in July of 2016, leading, coordinating and motivating our fundraising teams (BBQ & Raffles) be it rain, wind, sunshine or a 40 Degree scorcher. He first started with the raffle team and moved onto raffle coordinator. Since then the Association’s raffles have increased in their takings by about 20%. Garrie then took over as BBQ Coordinator and since then the BBQ team has gone from strength to strength. The BBQ’s went from once or twice a month to a BBQ every week and sometimes more. During Volunteer Week in May 2019 the BBQ team did 5 BBQ’s in 8 days at 4 different locations.
2019 Volunteer Christmas Party
With space being a constraint, the event was held in two locations and Star Award recipients were acknowledged with a Star trophy, Certificate and a lovely plant.
