LMVA Annual Report 2020

Playspace Annual Report

Playspace provides a safe, nurturing environment for children.

Many families visiting the Lyell McEwin Hospital do not have extended personal support networks that enable them to care for the children whilst attending sick family members, having treatments, attending diabetes management classes, birthing classes or appointments.

LMVA’s Playspace provides up to 2 hours free childminding allowing peace of mind for parents and caregivers accessing Hospital services.

Deb Edson, Playspace Coordinator, leads a dedicated team of 14 volunteers that offer children a stimulating and fun space whilst attending the Playspace..

During the period 1st July 2019 to 20th March 2020, 1,843 children attended the Playspace.

Unfortunately the Playspace closed on March 20th 2020 due to COVID-19 for the protection of all children, parents, volunteers and staff.Up until the closure of COVID-19 we continued to receive positive feedback from families that utilise the Playspace, stating they valued the service and help it provided to their family.

During the year we were gifted numerous toys and equipment by the LMH Children’s Ward due to the closure of their playroom. A big thank you to Children’s Ward staff for their generous donation.
